Frequently Asked Questions
What is TEFL?
TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It refers to teaching English to non-native speakers in countries where English isn’t the primary language. A TEFL certification is an internationally recognized qualification that prepares you to teach English effectively, whether online or abroad. It covers essential teaching skills, including grammar, lesson planning, and classroom management.
Most employers around the world require a TEFL certification when hiring English teachers, making it a key credential for launching or advancing your teaching career.
Who can take a TEFL course?
You do not need any prior teaching degrees or experience to teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Anyone with a passion for teaching and a willingness to engage with students can succeed in a TEFL course. Being outgoing, confident, and open to creative expression—especially when teaching younger learners—will help you connect with your students. While it may feel a bit awkward at first, these skills improve with practice and time as you gain experience in the classroom.
What jobs can I get with a TEFL certificate?
A TEFL certificate opens up numerous opportunities, whether you want to teach online or travel the world. With the 120-Hour TEFL certificate, you’ll be able to teach English globally, as it is fully accredited and internationally recognized. If you aim to teach in more competitive markets—such as language centers in your home country, the UAE, or certain countries in Asia like Japan, South Korea, and China—we recommend the 180-Hour Level 5 TEFL course to meet those specific requirements. Set yourself apart from other candidates with practical training experience-- included in your TEFL certification!
Which TEFL course is right for me: the 120-Hour or the 180-Hour Course?
Both courses provide you with the necessary qualifications to start your teaching career, but they cater to different needs and goals.
-
120-Hour TEFL Course: This is the global standard for TEFL qualifications. It’s a comprehensive and well-structured course that covers 10 modules. The 120-hour certification is perfect if you’re looking to teach English online or travel the world, offering the fastest path to a TEFL qualification.
-
180-Hour Level 5 TEFL Course: Equivalent to a CELTA or Trinity TESOL, this advanced course is more in-depth and demanding, but it offers greater opportunities. It’s ideal if you plan to teach in your home country, certain regions in Asia, or in more competitive countries like the UAE.
How do the TEFL certification courses work?
Our TEFL certification courses are delivered through The TEFL Institute, one of the most respected providers in the industry. That means all course content, assessments, feedback, and certificates are issued directly through them.
The courses are packed with engaging materials—videos, podcasts, reflective tasks, and quizzes—all accessible online. You can complete the course at your own pace, from anywhere, on any device.

The 120-Hour TEFL Course includes 10 modules, each with a multiple-choice quiz at the end. A score of 80% is required to pass, and free retakes are available. All testing is online and self-paced. While you’ll have 6 months to complete the course, most learners finish much sooner. Upon successfull completion, your TEFL certificate will be issued by The TEFL Institute.

The 180-Hour Level 5 TEFL Course features 11 modules with a mix of multiple-choice and open-ended questions. It is a more rigorous, government-regulated qualification that requires a 100% pass rate. Multiple-choice quizzes are auto-graded with unlimited retakes. Open-ended responses are reviewed by The TEFL Institute’s assessment team, who provide feedback if revisions are needed. A small fee may apply after a set number of attempts. Upon successful completion, your Level 5 certificate will be issued by The TEFL Institute. The course must be completed within 6 months, but extensions are available if needed.
Are the courses accredited?
At The Brook Hill Training Institute, we offer internationally recognized TEFL certification courses through our partnership with The TEFL Institute. These accredited online courses—such as the 120-Hour Advanced TEFL Course (accredited by DEAC) and the 180-Hour Level 5 TEFL Diploma (regulated by Ofqual through Highfield Qualifications)—provide you with the core credentials needed to begin teaching English at home or abroad.

To support your development further, we also offer optional practical training experiences that give you hands-on teaching practice in real or simulated classrooms. While this practicum component is not formally accredited, it is a valuable way to build your confidence, refine your teaching techniques, and strengthen your resume. We offer both free and paid practicum options, with varying levels of feedback and support.
Are certificates included in the cost?
Every course and practicum includes a digital PDF certificate at no extra cost—ideal for job applications both online and overseas. If you require a printed version for visa purposes or personal use, hard copies are available for an additional fee to cover printing and shipping.
